This blog is just about my life and mostly revolves around my son, Jamie. This blog is a combination of everything, whether it may be a new recipe I tried, a good freebie I found, something funny Jamie said, or feelings I'm having about life in general. There's little rhyme or reason. I'll never win any blogging awards, but I enjoy writing about our lives and I mostly do it for my son. It's so easy to forget moments over the years. I've got all these little tidbits of our life in print and I hope that someday Jamie can enjoy them.

I called this blog Mother of Life, Mother of Loss because of my issues with pregnancy loss and the joy of finally bringing this wonderful person into the world. Truly, I feel the pains of loss, but you won't see too much of that here. I am blessed and I am, above all else, a mother of life.

After all the years of infertility and loss, Matthew and I were blessed with a surprise pregnancy. We were pregnant with twins, but unfortunately, Baby A could not stay with us. Baby B grew into a healthy and happy baby girl that we named Bella Marie. We are so blessed to have two beautiful children.

Skittles

We were on our way home and Bella just would not stop crying.  Jamie was whining about the noise while eating the skittles we had shamefully bribed him with moments early at the store.  I asked him what he thought she was crying for.  He said, "Maybe she wants skittles."

Too Many Presents

I've been putting out a present a night under the tree to build up Christmas anticipation for Jamie. This morning Jamie informed me that I was putting too many presents under the tree and that there wouldn't be room for Santa's gifts.

Baby Bath

Jamie and I were watching Babies: Special Delivery and we saw a baby born. I'm hoping he will be there for the birth so we talked about the "yucky stuff" on the baby and how his baby would be yucky at first, too, but they would clean her off. Jamie said, "Can we put her in the bath tub? I love her in the bath tub."

Growing Pains

Jamie's legs have been hurting every morning for several days, maybe a week now. It concerns me a little, but he seems to be fine after a short bit. I told it was probably growing pains, more to myself than to him. He whined, "I don't want to grow up. I want to stay like this!"

He started this last night. He didn't want to eat his green beans, which he loves, because I told him they would help him grow up big and strong.

Poo in the Park

*I didn't take this picture. I got this shot from a friend.

We went to The Cove a couple of weeks ago. While there Jamie's friend showed him how to pee outside. He loved this novel new ability and quickly had to test it out. A little while later my friend and I went to her car to get some picnic stuff and to take her daughter to the bathroom. When I got back I found Jamie in quite a state. It seems that he thought "If you can pee outside then you can poop outside, too." He had poop streaked legs. I took him to clean up and change, then went back to find the poo. Turns out he had pooped right in the playground in front of a bench where a lady was sitting. Poor Jamie was so distraught. "I don't want you to be mad at me Mommy." I was so embarrassed I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. I picked up the poo and properly disposed of it.

Is Our Baby a Girl?

The kids are apparently sure that this baby is a girl. Jamie says the baby's name is Jen and McKalah wants me to name the baby Bella. I'm afraid that Jamie won't get his wish with the name Jen, it's not on our list. Bella is actually a distinct possibility. The moment she said it, I thought, hmmm, that is pretty.

Sweet

Jamie was so sweet this morning...

Jamie: "Mommy?"
Me: "Yes, baby."
Jamie: "Are the babies still in your tummy?"
Me: "I hope so."

I tried to keep the fact that there were two under wraps a little, but he caught on fast.

Little Pigs

The kids wanted me to record the little dance they made up. Please excuse the mess they've made in the playroom. It's atrocious, but the kids are adorable! I had to share.

Trapped

We've all been there. We go to the restroom and when it's too late we discover that we are out of toilet paper. This happened to me yesterday. I sat for a moment thinking of what to do until I thought to call Jamie. "Jamie!! Get Mommy some toilet paper!!!" A moment later he came back with one square.

Hold My Hand

The old saying that kid's say the darnedest things is so true. This morning I drove my son Jamie down to the bus stop as I always do. We spend these few precious moments together either having Jamie point out objects he sees outside of the van such as a puppy dog or a porch light that is on, or him trying to talk me into letting him have a sucker he found in the glove box. As a daily ritual as soon as the bus pulls up to the van I quickly jump out and run to the other side before Jamie can get out so I can grab his little hand, help him get his back pack, which he NEVER holds by the hand hold at the top as it's meant to be (which causes him to end up dragging it across the road haphazardly holding it by some strap or piece that he can get ahold of), and escorting him to the bus. I'm used to him pulling away sharply and trying to run across the street by himself, with him yelling "I don't wanna hold your hand!", and me running after him, but this morning he offered me a logical reason. As I ran around the van and grabbed his hand he gently pulled his hand away and explained to me "It's okay daddy, I won't get lost!" as he tried to reason his way into not holding my hand. Not wanting to force him to do something he didn't want to, or cause a major early morning meltdown, I conceded that holding his hand was NOT an option. BUT, I was not going to let him cross the street by himself. As he passed by me grinning from ear to ear with his new found freedom and independence, I gently grabbed the back of his jacket without him realizing it, and together we crossed the street. I know as he gets older that he'll want to do more things on his own, and someday not even want me around. Just the thought of that makes me sad. But in the future, just as in today, whether he knows it or not I'll always be there for him.

A Present

It's payday and Matthew's going to get some food on the way home. I asked Jamie what he wanted Daddy to bring him for supper and he said, "A present."

Killing Egg Monsters

A quick kidism from Jamie's Easter goodies...

We put little pinwheels in the kids Easter basket. Jamie says his is a magic wand and he uses it to kill egg monsters. He hits his plastic eggs with them until they pop open.

Sleepy Numbers

Jamie just cracks me up sometimes with the simplest things. We were laying in bed cuddling this morning. He yawned really big and said, "I'm sleepy" and spontaneously burst out in song, singing his numbers. It was just really funny.

Red Eyes

I just showed Jamie the pictures I posted of him and he began to fuss, "Uh, uh that's monster red eyes! I'm scared. You have to fix it Mommy!!" I guess that's what I get for posting without taking the time to remove red eye.

Cornbread

"I know what kind of food you cook at your house," said one of Jamie's teachers. "What?" I asked, confused. "We had beans the other day with lunch and Jamie asked for cornbread."

Macaroni and Cheese

Obviously, I should be in bed because I just keep posting little meaningless drivel. I thought of a funny kidism that I hadn't shared, though. Okay, it might not be funny to everyone, but I find it quite humorous. These are the things that are so easy to forget over time.

Jamie has really bad dermatitis (or some flaking condition) on his head. It has a yellow color. We've been forced to start washing his hair with dandruff shampoo, which is really frightening because I don't want to burn his eyes. He's not really good at holding his head back. He always wants to lean forward. We're managing, though.

Every day Jamie feels his head for the little rough patches on his scalp. When he finds one he insists I check it out for him, "Mommy, look at the macaroni and cheese."

My Head's Falling

I had to share a quick kidism. The other night when we were driving home from the grocery store Jamie was very sleepy. It's always cute to see his head drop and him fight to keep awake. I asked him if he was sleepy and he told me, "No, I'm not sleepy. My head's falling." A few seconds later he was fast asleep.

The Bus

Jamie discovered his breath was visible this morning. It was funny. He kept going, "hhhaaa, hhhaaa" to make puffs of vapor appear in the air. I was worried he would get cold and very bored waiting for his bus. Apparently visible breath is extremely entertaining, though. He also ran up and down the hill at the end of the street. There was still a small dusting of snow left on it and Jamie found it amusing.

When the bus finally arrived I quickly ushered him to the door. He didn't want to go up. He wanted me, but they said I could not take him to his seat. With some coaxing the aide guided him up the steps and I waved as they buckled him into his seat. I was glad to see him smiling and pointing at me, undoubtedly telling the aide, "Look, Mommy is waving."

I wish I had taken my camera with me to the bus stop. Maybe tomorrow I will. I should have gotten his picture yesterday when he got off the bus to document his first ride in a school bus. I hate it when I miss milestones. Some people may not think this picture worthy, but I take pictures of everything I can. You only get one shot at the firsts.

Kidisms Going Into Christmas

Christmas time seems to be teeming with kidisms. Jamie seems to come out with new things every day. I just love it. I need to be more on the ball about writing them down because I forget them when I go to document them. This time flies by so quickly. I don’t want to forget any little thing.

There’s a Progressive insurance commercial where Santa Claus goes into the Progressive office to get insurance. He has a big dog with antlers strapped on his head. When Jamie saw this commercial he said, “Silly puppy is a moose!”

There was a commercial for a Conair finger nail decorating machine of some sort on TV. It put glitter and jewels on fingernails. Jamie said that he wanted that. I told him that it was for girls and he said, “I want a boy one.”

Jamie’s new favorite phrase is, “I’m a big boy.” We got him a little white pre-lit tree for his playroom and let him decorate it himself. When he ran into a little trouble wrapping the garland around the tree I jumped in to give him a bit of assistance. He said, “You’re helping me mommy? You’re a big girl.”

Today when I was cooking breakfast in the kitchen Jamie pretended to play hopscotch on the tiles. He played hopscotch right out of the kitchen. It was really cute.

A few days ago McKalah and Hayden spent the night. After McKalah went to school, Jamie and I had Hayden all to ourselves. Jamie was kind of enamored by him. He would look at him and kiss him. He calls him “Kalah’s baby.” I asked him if he wanted a baby. He said, “Yeah, but I don’t have a baby in my tummy.”

He actually gets scared when the baby cries. It makes him jump and he gets a little panicked. “Hurry, Mommy, hurry!!!” He covers his ears and hides.

Jamie has been steadfast about his Christmas wish for Santa. He wants “animal eggs,” which is a animal matching game that has egg halves that hide the animals. It comes in an egg carton. Jamie still has an obsession with eggs. He also wants chocolate. When I ask him what else he wants for Christmas he says, “Just games.” We’ve bought four games on top of the animal egg game from Santa. We’ve picked up a few other things, too.

Kidisms

Jamie just says funny things all the time. Last night when I picked him up out of our bed to move him to his own he startled awake and said, "Where is it? Where is it?" I could never get him to tell me what he was looking for he just told me, "I want to do it myself." and went back to sleep on my shoulder.

Today he turned on the calculator. A little while later he came back into the office to find it was turned off. He said, "Hey, who turned off my calculator." I said, "It turned itself off." He turned to me, looking a bit offended, and said, "What did you say about me?"

When I tell him to go to bed he usually tells me, "I'm not sleepy. I'm just waking."

He's become a master negotitor, as well. I'll ask him if he wants me to make him a sandwich and he'll say, "What about candy?" I tell him no and he he'll put a finger to his chin and say, "Hmmm, well... what about popcorn?" We'll go through this with several items he can not have until he comes to an item that can be on the menu, "Hmmm, what about sandwich?" Okay buddy, I can do that.

For most things now days we are in the grasp of the "me do phase". Somehow dressing himself isn't a priority for his growing independence, though in my opinion it should be on the top of the list. When I force him to try to put on his own clothes he says, "I'm too little." I tell him he's a big boy and he says, "No, I'm just little." He can do it. He just doesn't want to for some reason.
